THE PRESS FINDS ANOTHER GEAR IN THE STRETCH

AUBURN, Wash. (August 12, 2020) –  The longtime jockey-trainer combo of Jennifer Whitaker and Howard Belvoir teamed up to take Wednesday’s feature race with the 5-year-old Washington-bred The Press.

The Press rallied down the stretch passing Wheel Rally with 80 yards to go in taking the $20,000 claimer for a pot of $15,600.

The Press paid $13.20 to win and ran the 6 furlongs in 1:09.20, winning by 1 3/4 lengths.

Wheel Rally ended up second, followed by the lukewarm favorite Wine At Nine and Vicente’s Shadow rounded out the top four.

The Press has now won six races over the local strip and earned over $115,000.

Notes: Sire Harbor the Gold passed Slewdledo for the all-time lead in sire wins at Emerald Downs. The 6-year-old Buckley Bay won the day’s second race giving Harbor the Gold 413 EmD victories…Trainer Debbie Peery doubled winning the third and fourth races with Tiger Mom and Malibu Bay…Both runners are owned by Little Barn Racing…Jockey Alex Cruz won the first two races of the week to open up a 23-21 lead on Juan GutierrezJake Samuels, Cerapio Figueroa and Eddie Martinez also doubled on the 11-race card which handled $1,716,198.
