ESPN TO SHOWCASE T-REX & CORGI RACES

AUBURN, Wash. – (Dec. 18, 2024) – Expanding its partnership with ESPN, Emerald Downs has announced the T-Rex World Championships on Sunday, June 29, as part of the network’s coverage in 2025.

T-Rex racing, which began in 2017 as a pest control company’s quirky team-building activity, has grown into a fan-favorite spectacle, featuring a competitive 100-yard dash with racers in inflatable Tyrannosaurus rex costumes racing through the Emerald Downs’ home stretch.

Danny New of ABC News will host the 2025 broadcast, adding his humor and energy to an event that has grown every year. This marks the latest collaboration between Emerald Downs and ESPN, which has showcased the venue’s Corgi Races since 2021. Hosted by Alex Wilson of The Weather Channel, the 2025 event—Corgi Weekend—is scheduled Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13

“Attendance at Emerald Downs has grown 13% over the past year, thanks to family-friendly experiences like the T-Rex World Championships, Corgi Races, Grandparents Race, and many others,” said Westin Petree, Emerald Downs Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “These promotions introduce new fans to the track, also exposing them to the incredible excitement of live thoroughbred racing.”

Broadcast dates for the T-Rex and Corgi races on ESPN will be announced in early summer.

The complete 2025 promotion schedule features a special event virtually every day during the 51-day season, encompassing Sunday, April 27, through Sunday, Sept. 7.
