TRUMP ITZ PREVAILS IN SUSAN G. KOMEN PURSE

AUBURN, Wash. (September 15, 2018) – Trump Itz collared Cody’s Choice in the final strides for a half-length victory Saturday in the $18,500 Susan G. Komen Purse for 3-year-olds at Emerald Downs.

With Julien Couton aboard, Trump Itz ran 6 ½ furlongs in a very fast 1:14.52 and paid $4.60, $2.40 and $2.10. Blaine Wright is the trainer for owners John and Janene Maryanski and Gail and Gerald Schneider.

Runner-up in last year’s Gottstein Futurity, Trump Itz has won twice in five starts this year with earnings of $25,238. A Washington-bred by Coast Guard-Knight Weave, Trump Itz is 3-3-1 in 10 starts overall with earnings of $62,130.

Cody’s Choice nearly bagged his fourth win of the season, but yielded to the winner late and paid $2.60 and $2.10. Ridden by Javier Matias, the runner-up now has three wins and three seconds in eight starts at the meeting.

Golden Cowboy, with Francisco Orduna-Rojas riding, finished third and paid $2.80, while Take Charge Deputy, Sherm and Mischief Miss rounded out the order of finish. Smoothee Lee was scratched earlier in the day.

Bowen has wrapped up his third straight riding title, leading Kevin Orozco by 34 wins with only four days remaining in the season. . .The trainers’ race has yet to be decided, with Jeff Metz leading Wright by a 43-40 margin. . .Cody’s Choice has lost two straight heart breakers to the Wright barn—Argosy Fleet caught Cody’s Choice in the final strides September 1, running 6 ½ furlongs in 1:14.97. . .Couton’s mother and sister, visiting from France, were on hand for his feature race victory. . .The Maryanskis are completing another very successful season at Emerald Downs, compiling an overall mark of 9-3-5 in 23 starts with over $175,000 in earnings. Those totals include horses owned in partnership with Riverbend Farm. . . .Former jockey Jorge Rosales had his first two-win day as a trainer at Emerald Downs, taking the opener with Beefcake ($5) and the third with Fairfaithhills. . .Washington-bred Psycho Sister ($3.40) moved past $90,000 in 2018 earnings with another gate-to-wire victory on the turf at Golden Gate.
