WA CUP BEGINS WITH SOPHOMORE TWIN-BILL

AUBURN, Wash. (August 25, 2019) – Three-year-olds get the spotlight as Emerald Downs presents the first of three Xpressbet Washington Cup double-headers on Sunday, September 1.

Muckleshoot Derby winner My Grandpa heads nominees for the $50,000 Washington Cup Sophomore Colts & Geldings Stakes, and Kent Stakes winner Alittlelesstalk tops the nominations for the $50,000 Washington Cup Sophomore Filly Stakes. Both races are carded at one mile.

Alittlelesstalk breezed an easy four furlongs Sunday for trainer Roddina Barrett, and the Demon Warlock filly returns to her own sex after a strong runner-up finish to My Grandpa in the Muckleshoot Derby on August 11. Alittlesstalk is 2-3-0 in six starts at the meet with $58,675 in earnings.

My Grandpa has improved sharply since adding blinkers three races back for trainer Tom Wenzel. A gray son of Grazen, My Grandpa overcame a slow break and wide trip for a 1 ¼-length victory in the 1 1/8-mile Muckleshoot Derby.

Xpressbet WA Cup continues Sunday, September 8, with the $50,000 WA Cup Juvenile Colts & Geldings Stakes, and $50,000 WA Cup Juvenile Filly Stakes, both at 6 ½ furlongs.

And on Sunday, September 15, older horses take their turn with the $50,000 WA Cup Filly & Mare Stakes and $50,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic, both at 1 1/16 miles.
