MILE PREVIEW DAY FEATURES FOUR STAKES

AUBURN, Wash. (July 8, 2018) – Emerald Downs’ offers four stakes races—including the final major prep for older handicap horses en route to the Longacres Mile—on Mile Preview Day, Sunday, July 15.

At 1 1/16 miles, the Mt. Rainier Stakes is the final steppingstone to the 83rd renewal of the Grade 3 Longacres Mile on Sunday, August 12.

Chappell Alpine Farms’ Riser, the top local candidate for this year’s Mile, will be heavily favored in the Mt. Rainier. The 4-year-old Mizzen Mast colt has dominated in both starts this season, rolling by 4 ¼ lengths in the six-furlong Governor’s Stakes and by 2 ¾ lengths in the 6 ½-furlong Budweiser Stakes. In the latter race, however, Riser was disqualified for interference at the break and placed last (fifth).

Dedicated to You, promoted to first in the Budweiser, and multiple stakes winners Barkley and Mach One Rules are top contenders in the Mt. Rainier.

Also Sunday, the $50,000 Boeing Stakes is a 1 1/16-mile test for older fillies and mares. Dave Mowat’s Top Quality, a stakes winner at Emerald Downs and Hastings Racecourse, heads a list of nine nominees.

In addition to the Mt. Rainier and Boeing, 2-year-old fillies race 5 ½ furlongs in the $50,000 Angie C Stakes, and 2-year-old colts or geldings sprint 5 ½ furlongs in the King County Express.
