FLY FAR AWAY SCORES UPSET IN SATURDAY FEATURE

AUBURN, Wash. (June 29, 2019) – Fly Far Away took command on the last turn and held off Blazinbeauty and Little Dancer for a one–length victory Saturday in the $18,500 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for older fillies and mares.

Ridden by Jorge Carreno, Fly Far Away covered one mile in 1:37.58 and paid $29.60, $10.80 and $5.60. Blaine Wright—now with victories on nine straight racing cards—is the winning trainer for owners/breeders Todd and Shawn Hansen of Tenino, Wash.

Saving ground throughout, Fly Far Away rallied past Diamonds R into the lane, drew 1 ½ lengths clear past mid-stretch and held off Blazinbeauty for the victory.

Winless in three previous starts this year, Fly Far Away enjoyed an outstanding 2018 campaign in which she won three races including the Washington Cup Filly and Mare Stakes. A 6-year-old Washington-bred by Pleasantly Perfect, Fly Far Away has an overall record of 5-4-3 in 22 starts with $90,696 in earnings.

Blazinbeauty, ridden by Javier Matias, closed strongly to finish second and paid $5.20 and $3.40. Little Dancer, with Franklin Ceballos aboard, rallied from last to finish second and paid $6.60 to show.

The top three finishers are all Emerald Downs’ stakes winners.

Boomerang Miss, Diamonds R, Semi Sweet and Reginella completed the order of finish.

NOTES: Mike Man’s Gold ($3.40) notched his 21st Emerald Downs victory to tie West Seattle’s Boy’s record for most wins in track history. Mike Man’s Gold ran one mile in 1:36.82 under Gary Wales for trainer Joe Toye and co-owners Greg Conley and Chuck Conley. A 9-year-old Washington-bred Liberty Gold gelding, Mike Man’s Gold is 21 for 49 at Emerald Downs and 21 for 60 lifetime with $337,293 in earnings. . .Mike Man’s Gold was reclaimed for $25,000 Saturday by trainer Rigoberto Velasquez and owner Inittowinit. . .Earlier, Wine At Nine ($7) notched his 14th Emerald Downs’ victory with a gate to wire romp in race two for trainer Vince Gibson and Two Putts for the Win #19. A 7-year-old Divine Park gelding, Wine At Nine ran a mile in 1;37.04 under Javier Matias. . . Matias rode two winners Saturday while Alan Bozell led the trainers with two wins. . .Wales win on Mike Man’s Gold stretched his consecutive winning days streak to 18. . .Owner Fred Desimone has acquired Rocky Tough, recent winner of a $99,000 allowance at Churchill Downs, with an eye on the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3) on August 11.
