Gold N Glitter (No. 1) collars Zazen in deep stretch

GOLD N GLITTER PREVAILS IN SATURDAY FEATURE RACE

AUBURN, Wash. (June 11, 2022) – Gold N Glitter caught Zazen in the final strides for a neck victory Saturday in the $25,000 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-old fillies at sunny Emerald Downs.

With Kevin Orozco riding, Gold N Glitter ran six furlongs in 1:09.54 on a fast track and paid $12.40 as second choice in the wagering. Frank Lucarelli saddled the winner for owners Chad and Josh.

Gold N Glitter has finished in the money all five career starts, compiling a 2-1-2 mark with earnings of $41,731. A daughter of Harbor the Gold, Gold N Glitter earned $13,750 for Saturday’s triumph.

Zazen, the 3 to 5 favorite ridden by Juan Gutierrez, set fractions of :21.63, :44.25, and :56.60, dug in when challenged by Gold N Glitter, and just failed to last. Enchanting Way, with Alex Cruz riding, finished third, followed by Smiling Salsa, Akasi, and Wegottodrinking.

Owners Sue and Tim Spooner claimed Zazen for $30,000 Saturday, tying Spittin Image (June 5) for the largest claim of the meeting to date.

Total mutuel handle was $837,401 on a seven-race card.

NOTES: Orozco and Lucarelli combined for three wins Saturday. In addition to Gold N Glitter, they clicked with Kind of Gallant ($3.80) in race three and It’s Curlin Time ($3.40) in race seven. . .Trainer Jorge Rosales has won with five of his last seven starters including Brony Boy ($2.60) in Saturday’s second race. . .Mojave paid a meet-high $26.40 to win in race five. . .Live racing continues Sunday with first post 2:15 p.m.
