LIVE LIKE MIKE ALL THE WAY IN SATURDAY FEATURE
AUBURN, Wash. (August 12, 2017) – Live Like Mike, the longest shot on the board, cruised to a 4 ¾-length victory in the $11,200 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for older fillies and mares Saturday at Emerald Downs.
The victory capped a three-win day for Washington sire Demon Warlock, a three-win day for owner Warlock Stable (Tim Floyd), and a two-win day for trainer Roddina Barrett.
Hustled to the lead by Leonel Camacho-Flores, Live Like Mike was never headed en route to her 11th career victory and ninth in one-mile races. She set fractions of :23.23, :46.24, 1:10.79 and 1:23.39, before finishing the mile in 1:36.36.
Live Like Mike paid $12.60, $6.20 and $3.60. A 5-year-old gray mare by Demon Warlock-Don’t Smoke, she is co-owned and bred by the partnership of Warlock Stables and Michael Roche.
Live Like Mike has won three races this season, all gate-to-wire at odds of 6-1, 5-1 and 7-2. Her career record is 11-2-7 in 37 starts with earnings of $65,223.
Winninginfashion, apprentice David Martin riding, rallied from last to finish second and paid $5.80 and $4. Diamond Cut, ridden by Isaias Enriquez, finished third and paid $3.20 to show, while Arviat Bay, Mary Lois and Madame Clouet completed the order of finish.
Warlock Stables also owns Crimson Warlock, winner of Saturday’s first race, and co-owns Another Winter, winner of Saturday’s second race.
NOTES: Gallyn Mitchell, in town for the Longacres Mile, wound up riding two races Saturday at Emerald Downs. The track’s all-time leader with 1,419 wins, Mitchell finished fifth aboard You Sleep On That in race five and fifth on Meatball Paul in race six. . .Mitchell’s mounts were both pick-ups as Julien Couton missed Saturday’s races with an injured thumb. . .Mitchell, who rides mainly Thoroughbreds at Los Alamitos, turns 55 Tuesday. . .Eswan Flores rode the first two races Saturday but was excused from his final five mounts due to lightheadedness. . .Saturday’s third race, the Duane Hamamura Memorial Purse, honored the award-winning equine photographer who passed away six years ago. Forbidden Maria ($11.20) prevailed in the $18,500 maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies. . .The fifth race, the Joe and Sally Steiner Appreciation Purse, honored the popular long-time proprietors of the Quarter Chute Café. Talk That Talk ($5) rallied to give jockey Javier Matias a natural hat trick. . Matias took the third on Forbidden Maria, the fourth aboard Blazin B B (15.60) and the fifth on Talk That Talk. . .Matias has 450 wins at Emerald Downs, good for No. 9 all-time. . . Trainer Norma Burnam saddled a cold exacta in race six with C C’n Water ($22.20) defeating stable mate Italian Warrior. . . Grace Handicap on the turf at Santa Rosa.
