INDIAN RELAY RACING, STAKES ACTION
HEADLINE BUSY WEEKEND AT EMERALD DOWNS

Enticing carryovers, the first two stakes of the 2022 meeting, and the return of Indian Relay Racing highlight a busy weekend of activity at Emerald Downs.

Longshots dominated last week at Emerald Downs as betting favorites were blanked Friday and Sunday, creating two nice carryovers into Friday: $13,386 in the $0.50 Pick 5 (races 3-7), and $15,570 in the $0.20 Jackpot Pick 6 (races 2-7).

Emerald Downs launches its 23-race stakes schedule Sunday with a pair of six-furlong dashes for sophomores. Three-year-old fillies meet in the $50,000 Seattle Stakes while 3-year-old colts & geldings square off in the $50,000 Auburn Stakes. The Seattle Stakes is the first of three open stakes for 3-year-old fillies culminating with the $75,000 Washington Oaks on Aug. 14. The Auburn Stakes begins a three-race series for 3-year-old colts & geldings with the $75,000 Muckleshoot Derby the crowning event on Aug. 14.

Indian Relay teams representing 18 teams and eight Indian Nations from six states are expected to compete for the 2022 Muckleshoot Gold Cup. A grand total of nine races are scheduled—three each day—headlined by Sunday’s championship Muckleshoot Gold Cup. In Indian Relay—the nation’s oldest sport with a history that goes back 500 years—teams race twice around Emerald Downs’ one-mile oval, exchanging horses each half-mile.
