SO LUCKY AMONG 12 NOMINATED TO GOTTSTEIN
AUBURN, Wash. (September 4, 2016) – Already a triple stakes winner at the meet, So Lucky heads a list of 2-year-olds nominated to the $65,000 Gottstein Futurity on Sunday, September 11.
To be run at 1 1/16 miles, the Gottstein is the 28th and final stakes of the 2016 season and the traditional closing day feature race.
So Lucky is among a handful of runners being considered for Horse of the Meeting and several other year-end honors. A Washington-bred by Coast Guard, So Lucky is undefeated in four starts including stakes wins of 3, 5 ¼ and 9 lengths. He put up Beyers of 71 in the Emerald Express, and 79 in both the WTBOA Lads and Washington Cup—easily the top three figures of any horse nominated to the Gottstein.
With the exception of Assets Included, none of nominees have raced farther than six furlongs. A British Columbia-bred son of Rosberg, Assets Included is 2-for-2 and scored a three-quarter-length victory in the 6 ½-furlong BC Cup Nursery last month at Hastings Racecourse.
Three fillies are nominated, Afleet Hope, No Talking Back and Barbara Shinpoch Stakes winner Blazinbeauty. In its 78-year history, only 12 fillies have won the Gottstein including Smarty Deb (2007) and Talk to My Lawyer (2011) at Emerald Downs.
