Sippin Fire scores by 3 1/2 lengths in the $50,000 Coca-Cola Stakes
$50,000 SEATTLE SLEW DRAWS DOZEN NOMINATIONS
AUBURN, Wash. (July 1, 2018) – Sippin Fire and Whatwasithinking, each with a stakes win already this season, headline a list of 12 sophomore colts and geldings nominated to the $50,000 Seattle Slew Stakes on Sunday, July 8.
At 1 1/16 miles, the Seattle Slew is the first route test and third of five open stakes for 3-year-old colts and geldings, a series that culminates with the new $100,000 Getaway Stakes on Sunday, September 23.
Whatwasithinking prevailed by a nose in the $50,000 Auburn Stakes at six furlongs, and Sippin Fire rebounded with a dominant 3 ½-length triumph in the $50,000 Coca-Cola Stakes at 6 ½ furlongs. Between them, they have only one start around two turns, a fifth by Whatwasithinking in the 1 1/16-mile Turf Paradise Derby.
Boundary Bay, third in both the Auburn and Coca-Cola, is another top contender, while Elliott Bay, a double stakes winner as a 2-year-old, looks to bounce back after sixths in both the Auburn and Coca-Cola. Elliott Bay also has a route win on his resume, prevailing in the 2017 Gottstein Futurity.
Trump Itz, runner-up in the Gottstein, comes off a sharp allowance victory at six furlongs in his 2018 debut.
