SPEEDY ILA VEIW PREVAILS IN FRIDAY FEATURE RACE

AUBURN, Wash. (June 23, 2017) – Ila Veiw set a fast early pace and held off the closers late for a 2 ½-length victory Friday in the $15,200 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

With Eswan Flores riding, Ila Veiw ran six furlongs in 1:07.90—equaling the fastest six furlongs by a filly or mare at Emerald Downs—and paid $8.40, $4.40 and $2.80. David Martinez is the winning trainer for WWDD Stables #2 and Russell Hulk.

Ila Veiw set fractions of :21.53, :43.80 and :55.55 en route to her third victory in six career starts. A 4-year-old Washington-bred filly by Rallying Cry, Ila Veiw is 3-2-1 with earnings of $26,350.

Fly Far Away, with Julien Couton riding, rallied from far back to finish second and paid $4.40 and $2.60, while Parkers Delight, the 8-to-5 favorite ridden by Jose Zunino, finished third and paid $2.20.

Trinni, Distinguishable, Arlington Lady and Our Silver Lining completed the order of finish.

Distinguishable, who pressed the fast pace set by the winner was claimed for $25,000 by trainer Manny Ortiz for owner Carrie Brogden. The 4-year-old Distorted Humor filly made three starts for trainer Mike Puhich and Emerald Racing club, compiling a 1-1-0 record.

NOTES: Cielator, who ran 1:07.83 on September 28, 2013, is the only other filly or mare with a sub 1:08 clocking for six furlongs at Emerald Downs. . .The $25,000 claim equals the season high at Emerald Downs; 4-year-old gelding Hit a Beach was claimed for $25,000 on May 6. . .Grinder Sparksaglo ($10.20) caught Grand Palais late for a one-length victory in race four for older $25,000 claimers, running six furlongs in a brisk 1:07.95. A hard-hitting 6-year-old by Grindstone, Grinder Sparksaglo has finished in the money in 11 straight times and has over $125,000 in earnings. . .Another tough Washington-bred, Keller’s Gold ($3.40) raced to a one-length victory in race five for $20,000 claimers, running six furlongs in 1:08.84 and notching his sixth victory in 12 career starts including two at the current meet. . .Oldtimers Vision ($11.40) caught Ready Set Jet in the final yards to win Friday’s third race for $15,000 claimers in 1:14.54 for 6 ½ furlongs. A 6-year-old Pollard’s Vision gelding owned and trained by Neil Knapp, Oldtimers Vision’s last seven Emerald Downs’ wins were at odds of 9-1, 14-1, 3-1, 7-2, 9-2, 9-2 and 9-2. . .Julien Couton wasted no time getting involved here, recording two wins and three seconds Friday, including the win on Grinder Sparksaglo. The 2015 Emerald Downs’ riding champion, Couton has shifted his tack to Emerald Downs after riding this winter/spring at Golden Gate Fields. . .Rocco Bowen also had a riding double for his 19th multiple win day of the season. . .David Martinez was the lone trainer with two wins Friday. . .Trainer Jonathan Nance notched his first win at Emerald Downs since 2011 as Alec’s Butte ($3.20) wore down Wood N Spoon to take the Friday opener. Nance, who saddles McKenzie Honey in Sunday’s $50,000 Irish Day Stakes, currently tops the Arapahoe Park standings with 14 wins. . .Live racing continues Saturday with first post 2 p.m.
