Luz Atticus-6 furlongs in 1:07.65

LUZ ATTICUS SMOKES IN FRIDAY FEATURE RACE

AUBURN, Wash. (Sept. 1, 2017) – Luz Atticus took the early lead and smoked home for a 1 ¾-length victory Friday In the $13,600 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Rocco Bowen, Luz Atticus ran six furlongs in 1:07.65—fastest of the meeting—and paid $9, $4 and $2.20. Joe Toye is the winning trainer for owners Bill Jensen, Gary Olson and Rusty Warwick.

Luz Atticus was hustled to the lead, set fractions of :21.64, :43.77 and :55.42, and held off a late rally by Botch for the victory. His final time of 1:07.65 topped a 1:07.83 clocking by Emmett Park on July 2.

A 7-year-old California-bred by Atticus, Luz Atticus is a triple winner at the meet, and has a career record of 12-7-8 in 48 starts with $147,700 in earnings. Claimed for $10,000 last month, Luz Atticus returned a quick $7,480 dividend for his new owners

Botch, with Kevin Orozco riding, rallied inside to finish second and paid $6.20 and $3. Ready Set Jet, the 11-10 favorite ridden by Julien Couton, finished third and paid $2.20, while Blue Law, Del Rio Harbor, C Cn’ Water and Golden Moon rounded out the order of finish.

NOTES: Bowen rode four winners Friday—his second straight four-bagger—and boosted his season total to 111 wins. He has surpassed last year’s total of 110 wins, and there still are eight days remaining in the 2017 season. . .Julien Couton rode two winners Friday, and Bowen and Couton have ridden 21 of 34 winners the last four days at Emerald Downs. . .Toye saddled two winners Friday and is 32 for 93 this season (34.4 percent). . .Web of Demons ($8.80) remained razor-sharp, scoring her third route victory in four starts in gate-to-wire fashion under Bowen for Roddina Barrett and Warlock Stables and Horseplayers Racing Club #188. . .Incidentally, that makes seven wins and four seconds in the last 11 starts for horses sired by Demon Warlock. . .Nathan Haar, who finished second in the standings this year at both Arapahoe Park and Portland Meadows, plans to ride the remainder of the meet at Emerald Downs. . .Live racing continues Saturday with a nine-race card at 2 p.m.
