Emerald Downs Reintroduces Live Sports to Washington

AUBURN, Wash. – Professional sports returns to Washington State on Wednesday when Emerald Downs begins its 25th season of Thoroughbred racing at 2:15 p.m. With health and safety protocols in place, the 10-race program marks the state’s first live sporting events since all sports were curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic in March.

The grandstand will be empty as no spectators are allowed, but 86 horses are entered on opening day and will perform under ideal weather conditions.

Track President Phil Ziegler is looking forward to Wednesday afternoon, “We will miss having all our fans here, but we hope the races can help fill the void of live sports we all have had. TVG will be showing all our races on their network and we have free streaming on emeralddowns.com.”

The updated Emerald Downs’ season calls for a 44-day season through Sunday, October 4, with racing every Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. and Thursday at 5 p.m.
