Kirby Defends Title in Wiener Dog Championship

KIRBY DEFENDS TITLE IN WIENER DOG CHAMPIONSHIP

Defending champion Kirby LaCoursiere struck gold once again Sunday, racing to a 1 1/2-length score in the Emerald Downs Wiener Dog Championships.

With four total heats on the card, Kirby captured heat three before reclaiming the title with an easy victory in the finale. Kirby’s owner—Jeanette LaCoursiere of Granite Falls, Wash—knew her Dachshund would be a true contender.

“Kirby is a fast dog, loves to run. He’s very playful,” she said. “We practice at home a lot.”

To the victor go the spoils as Kirby earned his owner tickets to the Seattle Seahawks game at Century Link Field versus their division rival San Francisco 49ers. The winners also picked up tickets for a trip to Bark at the Park Night at Safeco Field.

For the first time in track history, Emerald Downs hosted Wiener Dog Wannabe races, which featured small dogs facing off in two heats. Murphy captured the finale and netted Seattle Mariners and Seattle Sounders tickets for his happy owners.
