Getaway Day Stakes/Gottstein Futurity-Nominations

Sippin Fire and Rocco Bowen

AUBURN, Wash. (Sept. 16, 2018) – Sippin Fire, bidding to tie the track record for single-season stakes wins, heads a list of 21 sophomore colts and geldings nominated to the $100,000 Getaway Stakes on Sunday, Sept. 23.

The inaugural edition of the Getaway headlines a closing day stakes quadruple-header also featuring the $50,000 Gottstein Futurity for 2-year-olds, $25,000 Pete Pedersen Overnight Stakes for 3-year-olds and up, and $25,000 Fan Appreciation Day Overnight Stakes for older fillies and mares.

With a victory in the Getaway, Sippin Fire would tie Noosa Beach’s record of five stakes wins set in 2010 and almost certainly cement honors as 2018 Horse of the Meeting. By Harbor the Gold, Sippin Fire has reeled off stakes wins at four different distances—one sprint and three routes—and is 6-1-0 in nine lifetime starts with earnings of $156,038.

Sky Promise, winner of three straight derbies in Canada, also is nominated to the Getaway, along with Weekend Wizard, Canadian Game and El Noble, second third and fourth place finishers in the BC Derby.

Fuzzy Dolphin, winner of the Washington Cup Juvenile Colts & Geldings, tops the list of 2-year-olds nominated to the Gottstein Futurity. Five fillies are on the list including Northwest Factor, winner of the Angie C Stakes and third in the Barbara Shinpoch.

In all, 85 horses are nominated to the four stakes races, with entries taken Thursday, Sept. 20.Oh Marvelous Me, third in the Longacres Mile, is among 27 horses nominated to the Pete Pedersen, while Emerald Downs’ stakes winners B C Z Middleton, Blazinbeauty, Fly Far Away and Little Dancer are among 18 runners nominated to the Fan Appreciation Day.
