MIXO RALLIES TO VICTORY IN WEDNESDAY FEATURE

AUBURN, Wash. (Oct. 7, 2020) – Mixo rallied from far back and posted a 1 ½-length victory over Pure Pursuit in the $11,200 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-olds and up Wednesday at Emerald Downs.

Second choice in the wagering, Mixo ran six furlongs in 1:09.25 and paid $9 to win. Juan Gutierrez rode the winner for trainer Sharon Ross and owner K & W Stable LLC.

For Gutierrez, the victory was his second of the day and 1,417th at Emerald Downs. The 51-year-old native of Mexico City is two wins from tying Gallyn Mitchell’s all-time Emerald Downs’ record for wins by a jockey.

Last on the backstretch, Mixo saved ground on the turn and to mid-stretch, angled off the rail and split horses late to win going away. A 6-year-old Washington-bred by Abraaj, Mixo is 5 for 36 lifetime and earned $6,160 to increase his bankroll to $103,239.

Pure Pursuit held well to finish second, after dueling So Lucky through sizzling fractions of :21.58, :43.53 and :56.47. Tumac Mountain and So Lucky dead-heated for third while Fuzzy Dolphin, Owners’ Prestige and Playoff Bound completed the order of finish. Freiburg and D O’s Reignoffire were scratched earlier in the day.

In the $0.20 Jackpot Pick 7, one winning ticket returned $26,758.

NOTES: Gutierrez has seven mounts Thursday including three morning line favorites. . .Alex Cruz rode three winners Wednesday and tops the standings with 54 wins, 10 ahead of Gutierrez.
