SPITTIN IMAGE SHARP IN WEDNESDAY NIGHT FEATURE

AUBURN, Wash. (June 23, 2021) – Spittin Image overhauled Forever Gold in mid-stretch and scored a 1 1/4-length victory over Stand To in Wednesday’s $20,900 Muckleshoot Casino Purse at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Alex Cruz, Spittin Image ran six furlongs in 1:09.01 and paid $4.60 as the betting favorite. Chris Stenslie is the winning trainer and co-owner with One Horse Will Do Corporation.

Spittin Image has two straight wins and is 3-3-2 in 10 starts overall with earnings of $51,554, including $11,495 for Wednesday’s victory. A 4-year-old Washington-bred by Harbor the Gold-Flying Memo, Spittin Image is a full brother to triple Emerald Downs stakes winner O B Harbor.

Forever Gold and Spittin Image dueled through splits of :21.59 and :43.83, with Forever Gold gaining the upper hand into the stretch. But Spittin Image angled off the rail, surged past Forever Gold and held off a late bid by Stand To for the victory.

Stand To, ridden by Alex Anaya, rallied inside and gained second place, while Time ’n Time Again, ridden by Ryan Barber, finished third. Hard to Deny, stable mate of Spittin Image, finished fourth and was followed by Igottabooboo, Slew’s Tiz Whiz, Forever Gold, House of Lords, One Keene Kat and Rings of Saturn.

NOTES: Total mutuel handle was $1,137,405 on the eight-race program. . .Rita Lorraine ($6.80) became the meet’s first triple winner, leading gate to wire under Juan Gutierrez in race four. A 4-year-old filly by Dontmesswithkitten, Rita Lorraine has two wins for Candi Cryderman and John Parker and one for Jorge Rosales and Remmah Racing. . .Buckley Bay ($3.40) ran 6 ½ furlongs in a meet-best 1:14.77 while romping in Wednesday’s sixth race. A 7-year-old Harbor the Gold gelding, Buckley Bay is two for two at the meet for Joe Toye and Greg and Chuck Conley. . .Alex Cruz, Kevin Radke and Jose Zunino rode two winners each. . .Cruz tops the standings with 25 wins, and extended his consecutive winnings days streak to 37. . .The $0.20 Jackpot Pick Six paid out $81,409 to one lucky winner. . .There also is a $3,421 carryover to Thursday’s $0.50 Pentefecta. . .Live racing resumes Thursday with first post 6 p.m. Reminder that no Sunday racing this week due to expected extreme weather conditions.
