LA WAUN LEADS PAST EVERY POLE

Auburn, Wash. (July 8, 2020) – The 5-year-old gelding La Waun found a high-cruising speed right from the opening bell and opened up a commanding lead into the stretch to dominate his nine rivals in Wednesday’s $12,250 feature race.

La Waun, owned by John Parker, won for the ninth time in his career including four trips to the Emerald Downs Winner’s Circle from just nine starts. The Candice Cryderman-trained runner ran the 6 furlongs in 1:09.48 and was ridden to victory by Emerald Downs newcomer Alex Cruz.

Mixo checked in second 2 1/4 lengths behind the winner and race favorite Owners’ Prestige finished third.

 

NOTES: The handle on the 10-race card was $1,901,373. Juan Gutierrez and Gary Wales each tripled and stay tied in the top spot with nine victories at the current stand. The sixth day of the meeting is Thursday, July 9. The 10-race card will start at 5 PM. The 20-cent Jackpot Pick 7 has a carryover of $10,890.
