LA WAUN VICTORIOUS IN THURSDAY FEATURE RACE
AUBURN, Wash. (Sept. 24, 2020) – La Waun overtook So Lucky past mid-stretch and held off a late surge by Legitimate Cause and scored a half-length victory Thursday in the $13,600 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.
Ridden by Alex Cruz, La Waun ran six furlongs in 1:09.42 on a wet-fast track and paid $4.60 as the betting favorite. Candice Cryderman—saddling her 100th career winner at Emerald Downs—is the winning trainer for owners John Parker, Maggie Pimentel and Mike Pimentel.
A 5-year-old gelding by The Pamplemousse, La Waun now has back to back three-win seasons at Emerald Downs, and an overall mark of 11-7-3 in 38 starts with earnings of $157,315.
Legitimate Cause, ridden by Javier Matias, flew late to finish second, while So Lucky, Missed the Boat, D O’s Reignofire, Capital Expense and Freiburg completed the order of finish.
La Waun sat behind the leaders as So Lucky and Capital Expense dueled through fractions of :21.56 and :44.10, advanced three deep into the stretch, powered past So Lucky from the outside and held Legitimate Cause safe at the wire.
Total mutuel handle on the 11-race card was $2,054,939.
NOTES: In the $0.50 Pick 5, which included a $21,772 carryover, tickets with five winners paid $1,297.65. . .In Thursday’s opener, multiple stakes winner Unmachable ($4.80) tagged Hard to Deny late for a neck victory in a $19,000 allowance for 3-year-olds. Ridden by Javier Matias for Jack McCartney and Tawnja Elison, Unmachable ran a mile in 1:36.11 on a sloppy track and improved to 3-2-2 in seven starts with earnings of $89,515. . .The track was labeled sloppy on races one through three and wet-fast on races four through 11. . .Leslie Mawing, just back from Canterbury Park, rode Emerald Sea to a $29 upset in race three for trainer Bob Meeking and later gave McCartney his second win of the night aboard Intelicrypt ($10.80) in race eight.
