FORTUNE’S FREUDE SPRINGS UPSET IN FEATURE

AUBURN, Wash. (July 9, 2020) – Fortune’s Freude rallied past Perfect Blossom in the final furlong and scored a one-length victory Thursday in the $15,600 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

With Gary Wales riding, Fortune’s Freude ran six furlongs in 1:10.77 and paid $23.60 as the fifth choice in the wagering. Kay Cooper is the trainer for owner Blue Ribbon Racing #15 of Buckley, Wash.

A 5-year-old Washington-bred mare by Freud-Private Storm, Fortune’s Freud has won three of her last eight starts and is 3-4-1 from 14 overall starts with earnings of $33,810. She was bred by Rick and Debbie Pabst, who also bred Elliott Bay, winner of last Thursday’s feature race (July 2).

Perfect Blossom, longest price on the board at 13 to 1, took command into the stretch, but was unable to withstand the winner and edged Little Dancer for second.

Total mutuel handle was $1,653,723 on the 10-race card.

NOTES: Wales, Cerapio Figueroa and Alex Cruz each rode two winners Thursday, and Wales leads Juan Gutierrez 11-10 atop the jockeys’ standings followed by Cruz and Figueroa with eight wins apiece. . .Omache Kid ($6.80) became the meet’s first double winner, rallying past Mitch and John E to a victory in race two. A 6-year-old Polish Miner gelding, Omache Kid ran six furlongs in 1:09.73. . .In Wednesday’s $18,500 maiden special for 2-year-olds, Seattlesbestsecret ($14) ran the fastest 4 ½ furlongs of the meet, :51.75, to score by 3 ¾-lengths over stablemate Coastal Jazz. A Washington-bred by Secret Circle, Seattlesbestsecret is trained by Steve Bullock for Al Adams, David Israel and Charlie Clark. . .Windribbon ($4.60) ran 5 ½ furlongs in a meet best 1:02.11 while winning the fifth race by 12 ½ lengths. Blaine Wright trains the 4-year-old gelding for Seamist Racing. . .Owner/breeder Keith Swagerty is producing good results in early-season 2-year-old races, racking up a win and two seconds this week including a one-two finish by David Nose Best ($4) and Liberty’s Finale in the Thursday opener. . .Del Mar begins its 28-day season Friday (no fans) with a 10-race card featuring the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes for 3-year-olds on turf. Ajourneytofreedom, trained by Wright, is 15 to 1 on the morning line. . .Live Emerald Downs’ racing resumes Wednesday, July 15, with first post 2:15 p.m.
