GOLDIE’S DARLINS PREVAILS UNDER HOT GUTIERREZ

AUBURN, Wash. (May 26, 2019) – With hot-riding Juan Gutierrez in the saddle, Goldie’s Darlins gained command past mid-stretch and held off Fortune’s Freude for a 1 ¼-length victory Sunday in the $11,200 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

A slight favorite in the wagering, Goldie’s Darlins ran one mile in 1:36.55 and paid $7.80, $4.20 and $3.20. Gutierrez, capping a three-win day, rode the winner for trainer Pablo De Jesus and owner Alvaro Fernandez.

All three of Gutierrez’ wins Sunday were in one-mile races, and boosted his Emerald Downs’ career win total to 1,333. Gutierrez needs 86 wins to tie Gallyn Mitchell atop the track’s all-time list.

Fortune’s Freude closed strongly to finish second and paid $4 and $3.40, and Semi Sweet finished third and paid $5.80.

A 4-year-old Washington-bred by Car Talk, Goldie’s Darlins improved to 5-2-3 in 20 starts lifetime with earnings of $42,942.

NOTES: Gutierrez and De Jesus also clicked with Flatter Cat ($4) in race two. A 6-year-old Parker’s Storm Cat gelding, Flatter Cat became the ninth horse with two wins at the meet. . .The No. 6 post-position swept the first five races Sunday including upsets by Made for More ($16) and Legitimate Cause ($15). . .Trainer Paul Treasure notched his first two wins of the season Sunday with 3-year-old fillies Made for More in race four and Energica ($20.60) in race eight. . .Gary Wales rode two winners and leads Gutierrez 17-13 atop the riders’ standings. . .Cm Once Ina Bluemoon ($2.60) prevailed in the Sunday opener, which was the first Quarter Horse race of the season. Ridden by Javier Matias for owner/trainer Nick Lowe, the winner ran 350 yards in :17.95. . .Live racing continues Monday with the $50,000 Hastings Stakes for older fillies and mares at six furlongs.
