TAX CODE PREVAILS IN SATURDAY FEATURE RACE

AUBURN, Wash. (May 27, 2023) – Tax Code took command into the stretch and scored a 1 ¼-length victory over Naval Escort in the featured $24,000 Muskleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-olds and up Saturday at Emerald Downs.

With Kevin Radke aboard, Tax Code covered six furlongs in 1:09.30 om a fast track and paid $4.20 as the public betting choice in a field of eight. Shelly Crowe is the trainer for owner Mischief Racing (Vicki Wilson).

Racing in third early, as Tig set fractions of :21.60 and :44.39, Tax Code drove through an opening inside, gained command at the three-sixteenths marker and held sway to the wire. It was the first win in three local tries for the 4-year-old son of Speightstown and upped his ledger to 2-1-0 in five starts overall. The $13,920 winner’s share boosted his earnings to $46,665.

Naval Escort, ridden by Silvio Amador, rallied steadily to finish second while Firewalker, ridden by Jennifer Whitaker, was 2 ½ lengths farther back in third. Rounding out the order of finish were Peso, Napoletano, Midnight Mojo, Tig, and Prime Example.

NOTES: Total mutuel handle was $733,925 on an eight-race program. . .Devil’s Off Duty ($4.60) became the meet’s first two-time winner, romping by five lengths for trainer Debbie Peery and owners Vicky Jo Elison and Ken Elison. . .Silvio Amador and Isaias Enriquez each rode two winners. . .Trainer Frank Lucarelli, No. 1 all-time at Emerald Downs, notched his first two wins of the meet with Summerofthesamurai ($4.60) and Royal Halo ($9.60). Lucarelli now has 1,123 wins at Emerald Downs. . .Fast Buck ($6.20), by 2008 Gottstein Futurity winner Gallant Son, prevailed in the $100,000 Daytona Stakes on turf at Santa Anita. . .Live racing continues Sunday at 2 p.m.
