COASTAL JAZZ PREVAILS IN MUCKLESHOOT CASINO PURSE

AUBURN, Wash. (May 20, 2023) – Coastal Jazz took command in mid-stretch and held off betting favorite Clayton Delaney for a 1 ½-length victory in Saturday’s $24,000 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Kevin Radke, the winner covered 5 ½ furlongs in 1:02.92 and paid $11.20 as third betting choice in a field of seven. Steve Bullock saddled the winner for owner Gold Coast Racing.

A 5-year-old Washington-bred by Coast Guard, Coastal Jazz won for the sixth time in 23 starts including a five for 19 ledger at Emerald Downs. A $13,920 first place check bumped his career earnings to $92,849.

Clayton Delaney, the 6 to 5 public choice ridden by Luis Negron, rallied belatedly for second while Cody’s Choice, with Alex Cruz riding, finished third. Rounding out the order of finish were Fantastic Day, Muncey, Capital Expense and Pick Your Bid.

NOTES: Total mutuel handle was $1,150,242 on a nine-race card. . .First time starter Me Gusta Luna ($8.60) prevailed in the Dori Monson Memorial Purse honoring the long-time KIRO radio star and horse racing aficionado who passed last December. . .Jose Zunino rode Tribal Impact ($18.80) and Silvery Orb ($6.20) to back to back wins in races four and five to move into 11th all-time in Emerald Downs wins with 440, one ahead of Debbie Hoonan. . . Isaias Enriquez guided Pistol Power to a $15.60 upset in race six, the first win here since 2017 for the former Emerald Downs riding champ. . .Pistol Power capped a double for trainer Rigoberto Velasquez, who also won with Me Gusta Luna. . . Ms Parkside ($3.60) improved to four for six at Emerald Downs, holding off You Go Girl in the $21,000 sub-feature for $20,000 claiming fillies and mares. . .Five of Saturday’s nine winners paid $10 or more to win. . .Live racing continues Sunday with first post 2 p.m.
