ATTRACTED SPARKLES IN 2024 EMERALD DEBUT

AUBRUN, Wash. (May 10) – Northwest newcomer Attracted split horses in upper stretch and powered home for a sharp 5 ¼-length victory over Victoria’s Charge in Saturday’s $25,000 John Parker Racing Purse for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

With Silvio Amador at the controls, Attracted covered 5 ½ furlongs in a meet-best 1:02.01, returning $4.84 as the betting favorite in a bulky field of 11.

A 4-year-old by Enticed out of the Tapit mare Love’s Illusion, Attracted has three wins and a second in four starts with earnings of $52,250. Her previous three starts, all in California, featured a pair of victories at Pleasanton and a runner-up finish at Santa Anita.

According to Wright, Saturday’s out was a prep for the $50,000 Hastings Stakes next month, one of four stakes on Sunday, June 22.

Victoria’s Charge, ridden by apprentice Manuel Americano, chased the winner to the wire and gamely held second as the 7 to 2 second betting choice. Victoria’s Charge has now finished second to Attracted in two of her last three starts.

Crème de Menthe, a triple winner at Emerald Downs in 2024, finished third while Miss Dynamic, the leader through four furlongs in :44.01, held fourth.

Rounding out the order of finish were Blue Spirit, Silvery Orb, Grease Missle, Our Lyla Grace, Rockit a Day, Union Coach, and Stepup.

NOTES: Mutuel handle totaled $1,193,557 on an eight-race card. . .Kevin Orozco, Kevin Krigger, and Silvio Amador rode two winners apiece. . .Francisco Monroy brought home his second bomber in two days, guiding Ruler of Angels to a $58.60 score in the nightcap. . .Orozco also has clicked for boxcars twice in the opening four days, including Lovely Bride ($65.30) in Saturday’s second race. . .Ruler of Angels marked the first Emerald Downs’ win for trainer Marcelino Trujillo. . .5-year-old Chuckanut Bay ($3.02) continues to blaze at Emerald Downs, zipping six panels in 1:07.77 with Julien Couton up for Howie Gibson and Remmah Racing in. Chuckanut Bay ran the fastest six furlongs of 2024, 1:07.69, in a 10 ¾-length blowout last August. . .Jennifer Whitaker was back in action Saturday, finishing sixth on Settler’s Cove for owner/trainer Howard Belvoir in the opener. Whitaker, the track’s all-time leading woman jockey with 525 wins, missed all of 2024 with an ankle injury. . .Racing continues Sunday with a 10-race card on Mother’s Day. First post 1:50 p.m.
