KILLARNEY LASS BLITZES FILLIES IN SATURDAY FEATURE

AUBURN, Wash. (July 6, 2019) – Killarney Lass turned in a sensational performance in Saturday’s $18,500 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-old fillies.

Gaining the lead into the turn, the 3-year-old Eskenderaya filly romped to an 18 ¼-length victory while running 6 ½ furlongs in a blazing 1:14.47— just .12 seconds off Anyportinastorm’s meet-fastest of 1:14.35 in the Budweiser Stakes last week.

Riding his fourth winner Saturday, Kevin Orozco steered Killarney Lass for trainer Frank Lucarelli and owner Dan Sargent of Edgewood, Wash. The winner returned $4.60, $3 and $2.20 as the betting favorite.

After finishing an encouraging third in the Seattle Stakes in May, Killarney Lass finished off the board in the Kent Stakes four weeks ago and was dropped in for a $30,000 tag Saturday.

Softer company was the answer, as Killarney Lass rallied to the lead while four deep into the turn, quickly opening a six-length lead into the lane, and continued widening to the wire. Her winning margin is the third largest in track history. A. Lurie Girl won by 19-lengths on June 5, 2008, and Stikine Slew scored by 18 ¾-lengths on Aug. 11, 2013.

Killarney Lass’ overall record is 4-0-3 in 11 starts with $64,251 in purses, including $10,175 for Saturday’s triumph. She has a thing for blowout victories, having scored her maiden win by 14 lengths here last summer.

Slingshot Mistress rallied from last to edge Suddenly Awesome for second, and paid $17.60 and $7.20, while Suddenly Awesome paid $4 to show. El Bell Camp, Money In the Starrs and Forty Six Carats rounded out the order of finish.
