FRISKY BEAR PREVAILS IN MUCKLESHOOT PURSE
AUBURN, Wash. (May 18, 2018) – Frisky Bear collared Allotment past mid-stretch and rolled to a one-length victory in Friday’s $15,000 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-old fillies at Emerald Downs.
With Julien Couton aboard, Frisky Bear covered 5 ½ furlongs in 1:05.63 and paid $4.40, $2.80 and $2.40. Frank Lucarelli is the winning trainer and co-owner with Friday Friends Stable and Daniel Sargent.
In third place early, as Come Find Me and Allotment dueled through fractions of :22.38 and :46.21, Frisky Bear rallied into the lane, drew even with Allotment at the eighth pole and powered home for the victory.
A Washington-bred by Nationhood-Cascade Corona, Frisky Bear was stakes-place as a 2-year-old, finishing runner-up to track and state champion Bella Mia in the Washington Cup Juvenile Fillies. Facing males and routing for the first time in the Gottstein Futurity, Frisky Bear finished a respectable fifth. Her overall mark is 2-1-0 in five starts with earnings of $28,423.
Allotment, making her first start at Emerald Downs, held second and paid $5.60 and $3.60, while Shopping Tizzy finished well for third and paid $6.60.
Lucarelli, No. 2 all-time with 912 wins at Emerald Downs, is now within $50,000 of becoming the first trainer in track history with $10,000,000 in purse earnings.
NOTES: In the $15,200 co-feature for older fillies and mares, Fly Far Away ($8.60) scored a half-length victory over Guardian One in 1:04.61 for 5 ½ furlongs. Jose Zunino rode the 5-year-old Pleasantly Perfect mare for trainer Blaine Wright and owners/breeders Todd and Shawn Hansen. . . Trainer Roy Lumm made it 23 straight seasons with at least one win at Emerald Downs, as Private Boss ($8.40) rallied for a victory in Friday’s fourth race. Lumm is No. 6 all-time with 427 wins at Emerald Downs. . .After winning just 5 of 42 races the last two weeks, betting favorites went 4 for 7 Friday. . .Julien Couton swept the late double on Frisky Bear ($4.40) and Will Not ($4.60) and was the only jockey with multiple wins Friday. . .Rocco Bowen managed a victory on Uncle Ackie ($7.60) in race three and has wins on the first nine cards this season. . .Live racing continues Saturday with first post 2 p.m. The Preakness simulcast is between Races 4 and 5 at Emerald Downs, with post time 3:48 p.m. The Budweiser Clydesdales will be on the track immediately following the Preakness. There also is a $3,326 carryover in the $0.20 Jackpot Pick 7.
