McDove and Kevin Orozco clear to the wire

McDOVE PREVAILS FOR FAT CAT RACING!

AUBURN, Wash. (June 1, 2018) – McDove gained the lead into the turn and drew away for a two-length victory over Exit Sixty Slew in the $11,200 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for older fillies and mares Friday at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Kevin Orozco, McDove ran 6 ½ furlongs in 1:17.17 and paid $8.20 as third choice in the wagering. Larry Ross is the winning trainer for owners Fat Cat Racing LLC, a syndicate led by Wayne Campbell of Olympia, Wash.

A 5-year-old Kentucky-bred by Proud Citizen, McDove has a first and a second this season for her new owners, who acquired the mare in a private sale last fall.  McDove’s overall record is 3-3-2 in 17 starts with $41,158 in earnings including $6,160 for Friday’s victory.

McDove slipped through inside, led through fractions of :22.76, :45.65 and 1:10.48 en route to the victory. She battled with Exit Sixty Slew virtually the entire way, finally shaking clear in mid-stretch, and held a safe margin to the wire.

Exit Sixty Slew, the 8-5 favorite ridden by Julien Couton, held second while Guardian One, 5-2 second choice, overcame a poor start to finish third. Tough Runner, Tesla, Lazzarella and Lovethisbar completed the order of finish.

Dreamer S. and Colleen’s Diamond were scratched earlier in the day.

NOTES: Rocco Bowen, leading rider at the meet with 30 wins, was off his mounts Friday with flu. . . Eswan Flores was the riding star Friday with three wins, while Kevin Orozco remained red hot with two wins and is second overall with 19 wins. . . Trainer Paul Treasure picked up his first Emerald Downs’ win as Risky Venture ($4.60) prevailed in the Friday opener under Anne Sangunetti. . . Romeoinbluejeans and jockey Patrick Henry Jr. both appeared to avoid injury after going down midway on the backstretch of the seventh race finale. . .Live racing continues Saturday with first post 2 p.m., and includes a $16,971 carryover in the $0.20 Jackpot Pick 7.
