SIERRITA PREVAILS IN BETAMERICA PURSE AT EMD

AUBURN, Wash. (July 29, 2016) – Sierrita wore down Swiss Script and Our Silver Lining in the final yards and raced to a two-length victory Friday in the $11,900 BetAmerica Purse for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Jorge Rosales, Sierrita ran six furlongs in 1:09.60, and paid $13.80, $5 and $2.60 as third choice in the field of six. F.C. Frazier is the winning trainer for Arizona-based owners Brent Stapley, Linden Hatch and Paul Magnum.

In fourth place early, Sierrita advanced four wide into the lane and rallied strongly through the stretch for the victory.

A 3-year-old Arizona-bred by Top Hit-O’Hacco, Sierrita is 2-2-2 in eight career starts with earnings of $22,011, and is 2-1-0 in four starts since being claimed for $8,000 at Turf Paradise in April.

Swiss Script, ridden by Erick Lopez, held second and paid $7.80 and $4.40 while Our Silver Lining, the 4-5 betting favorite, finished third and paid $2.10. Pebble Beach, Knife River and Tee Time Mary completed the order of finish, and Cahills Misty Morn, Ila View and Elusive Riches were scratched earlier in the day.

NOTES: It went down to the wire but jockey Rocco Bowen extended his consecutive days win streak to 15 Friday with a victory aboard Dugan Bill ($12.40) in the Friday nightcap. The meet’s leading rider with 71 wins, Bowen was winless in six mounts before the triumph aboard Dugan Bill. An 8-year-old California-bred gelding owned and trained by Manny Ortiz, Dugan Bill now has wins at Golden Gate Fields, Hollywood Park, Turf Paradise, Ferndale, Wyoming Downs and Emerald Downs. . . Ronald Richard was the lone rider with two wins Friday, the fourth straight riding double for the 23-year-old Louisianan. . .The feature race win on Sierrita was Rosales’ 50th career victory at Emerald Downs. . .Fifth race runner-up Pecos Breeze, one of the meet‘s steadiest 3-year-olds, was claimed for $10,000 Friday by owner/trainer Howard Belvoir. A New Mexico-bred gelding, Pecos Breeze is 3-2-2 in seven starts at the meet with $25,880 in earnings. . .Betting favorites were 0-7 Friday, the first time this season that at least one favorite failed to win. . .Live racing continues at 6:30 p.m. Saturday—the final Saturday evening card of the meet. There also is a $2,569 carryover in the $0.20 Pick 7.
