DUTTON BLASTS OFF IN $75,000 GOTTSTEIN FUTURITY,
FULL BROTHRS MEET IN $40,000 MUCKLESHOOT TRIBAL CLASSIC

The undefeated Dutton is even-money on the morning in Thursday’s $75,000 Gottstein Futurity at a mile and a sixteenth. The Gottstein drew a field of 10 and is the first two-turn test for Dutton, a Washington-bred by Noosito who has won his first two starts by a combined 23 lengths under Jennifer Whitaker for trainer Howard Belvoir and Rising Star Stable VIII.

In the $40,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic, an evenly matched field of six Washington-breds meet at a mile and a sixteenth. The Press and Elliott Bay, third and fourth in the Longacres Mile, are 5 to 2 and 3 to 1 on the morning line, followed by Papa’s Golden Boy, Gold Crusher, Unmachable and Makah Lane. Harbor the Gold sired four of the six runners in the race, including full brothers Papa’s Golden Boy and Gold Crusher. Gold Crusher, a 3-year-old by Harbor the Gold-Brookie Girl, comes off a 4 ¾-length victory over Unmachable in the Muckleshoot Derby at a mile and a sixteenth. Papa’s Golden Boy, a 4-year-old by Harbor the Gold-Brookie Girl, finished fifth after leading the opening six furlongs of the Longacres Mile three weeks ago.

In a third stakes Thursday, Emerald Distaff champion Alittlelesstalk heads a field of seven in the $40,000 Washington Cup Filly & Mare Stakes.

WEEK 14: 20 RACES INCLUDING THREE STAKES

Total entries for Week 14 are 152 horses in 20 races or 7.6 a race. Through 28 days (June 24-Sept. 24) average starters per race is 7.50 horses (2162 starters, 288 races).

WEEK 14 FEATURE RACES

Dutton

Thursday, Oct. 1, Race 8, $75,000 Gottstein Futurity, 2-Year-Olds, 1 1/16 Mile: In 24 previous runnings of the Gottstein Futurity at Emerald Downs, Koala Beach in 2009 is the only horse to lead gate to wire. Interesting talking point, but likely irrelevant on Thursday. Dutton has been overpowering in his two starts, debuting with a 9-length victory in the WTBOA Lads Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs and scoring by 14-lengths vs. allowance foes at 6 furlongs. Dutton has exceptional speed, and yet finishes like two turns won’t be a big deal. Noosito, sire of Dutton, was good at middle distances while dam Ms. Moscow Mattie has produced only sprinters to date–neither Bullet Drill nor Jet Pak Black have won beyond 6 furlongs. None of the horses in the Gottstein have raced farther than 6 1/2 furlongs, so this will be a new experience for all 10 runners.Coastal Kid comes off a promising debut and is by a sire, Coast Guard, whose progeny include Gottstein runner-ups So Lucky and Trump Itz. Naval Escort, a maiden, has improved all three starts and is out of a dam who finished third against colts in the 2015 Gottstein. Easy Silence finished fourth after blowing the break while debuting in the Shinpoch Stakes. She is by Constitution, one of the hottest young sire in the nation, and fillies have won the Gottstein three of the last nine years.

Papa’s Golden Boy

Thursday, Oct. 1, Race 4, $40,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic, 3-Year-Olds & Up, Washington-Bred, 1 1/16 Mile: Interesting race with four horses exiting the Longacres Mile and a pair of sharp 3-year-olds. The race begins, as usual, with fleet-footed Papa’s Golden Boy, who led through six furlongs in 1:08 3/5 before finishing a respectable fifth in the Longacres Mile. His biggest pace challenge here could come from Gold Crusher, his full younger brother who comes off a dominating win at this distance in the Muckleshoot Derby. The Press and Elliott Bay both ran well in the Mile and should get a lively pace to chase. Makah Lane won a route stakes here last year and 3-year-old Unmachable wheels back seven days after a nice allowance win.

Alittlelesstalk

Thursday, Oct. 1, Race 7, $40,000 Washington Cup Filly & Mare Stakes, 3-Year-Olds & Up Fillies & Mares, Washington-Bred, 1 1/16 Mile: Alittlelesstalk left no doubt three weeks ago, blowing past Killarney Lass for a 2 1/2-length victory in the Emerald Distaff at a mile and a sixteenth. Now she runs the same distance vs. state-breds, and worked a bullet half-mile last week to boot. Alittlelesstalk is versatile and game, hence a 5-4-0 record in her last 10 starts at Emerald Downs. Dontkissntell misfired in the Distaff, but has proven ability around two turns and nearly caught Alittlelesstalk in her first out this season. Fortune’s Freud and Magical Spell, both trained by Kay Cooper, enter in good form. Fortune’s Freud earned a big figure wiring $15,000 claimers while Magical Spell gave Alittlesstalk a battle in last year’s Washington Cup Sophomore Filly. Three-year-olds Windy Point and For You Only have ability, but are unproven at the distance.
