Dutton
Friday, Sept. 18, Race 9 = $19,000 Allowance WA-Bred 2YO, 6 Furlongs: Dutton shortens a half-furlong following a smashing debut in the WTBOA Lads Stakes three weeks ago, running 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.25 and earning a 60 Beyer. His speed is the real deal, and somebody would have to improve a lot to make this one a race. John’s On Point has been gelded and adds blinkers after waving the white flag at 8 to 5 in the Lads. John’s debut was rock solid and perhaps the rematch could get interesting. Trainer David Martinez entered three horses including the filly Zeynep, who just finished a respectable fourth vs. starter allowances at Golden Gate.

Sunday, Sept. 20, Race 9 = $20,000 Claiming Fillies & Mares, 6 ½ Furlongs: Actually there are two feature races Thursday. Race 8 is a $19,000 allowance/optional claimer for 3-year-olds at 6 ½ furlongs that includes four horses from the Muckleshoot Derby two weeks ago. Fantastic Day ran very well to finish fourth after racing wide on both turns and is likely to be favored in a competitive race. In Race 9, Frank Lucarelli sends out 2 to 1 morning line favorite Spot On and 5 to 2 second choice Close the Show Lo. Spot On is two for two at the meet and has three straight wins overall, each time coming slightly off the pace to win going away. Close the Show Lo also is sharp and benefited from a clever ride at this condition six weeks ago; her versatility is a plus. Casino Games is a new shooter who made $85,000 last year, mainly while routing on synthetic at Golden Gate. She seems to be training well and figures to be finishing in this elongated sprint. Magical Spell gets some class relief after stakes losses to Daffodil Sweet and Killarney Lass.
