WEEK 11 STAKES RACES:

Daffodil Sweet
$40,000 Washington Oaks, 3-year-old fillies, 1 1/16 Mile (Thursday, Sept 4, Race 9-8:50 p.m.): Undefeated and virtually untested in three starts, Daffodil Sweet will be a prohibitive favorite while stretching out to a mile and a sixteenth. Her sire and dam were sprinters, but damsire Lion Heart was a triple graded winner around two turns and runner-up in the 2004 Kentucky Derby. Another victory puts Daffodil Sweet squarely in the hunt for 2020 Horse of the Meeting. Princess of Cairo nearly fell in a route stakes at Hastings Racecourse three weeks ago, but still managed to run on for third. Hard to say where she fits with these, but it looks like she can route. Windy Point and For You Only are consistent fillies and possess enough speed to keep Daffodil Sweet in their sights. Windy Point finished a distant third in the Coca-Cola, but her previous start was very good; For You Only has finished second in all three starts this year, twice against Daffodil Sweet and once vs. Windy Point. Autumn Arrives and She Owns the Paynt are improving and hail from top stakes barns.

Unmachable
$40,000 Muckleshoot Derby, 3-year-olds, 1 1/16 Mile (Thursday, Sept 4, Race 8-8:20 p.m.): Unmachable unleashed an eye catching stretch run to get the money in the Seattle Slew at 6 1/2 furlongs. He is bred top and bottom to handle a route and was a solid second in the two-turn Gottstein Futurity last year. Gold Crusher looked home free in the Seattle Slew, only to get tagged by Unmachable in the final strides. Crusher’s style suggests added distance won’t be an issue, and the jockey and trainer have been red-hot all season in stakes. Muncey has fired all three outs at the meet including a pair of seconds vs. older horses. He appears to be begging for more distance. Tig was fractious in the gate while taking heavy tote action in the Seattle Slew. This guy could be tough if allowed to relax early. Lolo Paniolo ran the fastest six furlongs of the meeting while producing a $65.80 upset last month. The stable has a long history with sprinters stretching out in stakes.
