WEEK 10 STAKES RACES
$40,000 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes, 2-year-old fillies, 6 ½ Furlongs (Thursday, August 27, Race 9, 8:50 p.m.): Frank Lucarelli already has three stakes wins this season and has a great chance of making it four, sending out the top three morning line choices: Time for Gold (7/5), Patricia L (4/1) and Managingbrianna (5/1). A $6,500 Harbor the Gold filly, Time for Gold rode the rail while rolling to a 9-length victory in the $40,000 Angie C Stakes, running 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:02.72 and earning a lofty 67 Beyer. Patricia L dominated $25,000 maiden claimers in a sparkling debut and should relish the added distance; Managingbrianna finished a distant second to Time for Gold in the Angie C, but has fired in both career starts and drew a cozy outside post. Of the rest, Sacagewea improved sharply in start number two and her mom was a very fast sprinter. Easy Silence is by the excellent debut sire Constitution and shows some flashy workouts in Kentucky.
$40,000 WTBOA Lads Stakes, 2-year-old colts & geldings, 6 ½ Furlongs (Thursday, August 27, Race 7, 7:52 p.m.): Six of the nine runners exit the $40,000 King County Express, which although an exciting contest was almost a full second slower than the Angie C Stakes on the same card. Top Executive overcame a wide trip to prevail over Seattlesbestsecret in the King County, running 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.86. Those two again figure prominently, but contention runs deep. Tom Wenzel holds a pair of bullets with second-time starters John’s On Point and Captain Dashi; the former showed high speed while blitzing maiden specials in :57.59 for 5 furlongs and earning a 57 Beyer–highest in Thursday’s race. The latter had all kinds of trouble in the King County and was only beaten 2 3/4 lengths for the whole thing. John’s On Point is a tepid 3 to 1 morning line favorite but he and jockey Eddie Martinez must overcome the rail. The No. 1 post actually has been decent at 6 1/2 furlongs, winning 3 of 20 starts this year and 60 of 356 (16.9%) since 2016. Dutton, scratched at the gate in the King County, continues to tear up the track in morning workouts and Howard Belvoir has won this race three of the last five years.
