WEEK 8 STAKES RACES:
Barkley winning the 2018 Longacres Mile
$40,000 MT. RAINIER STAKES, 3&UP, 6 ½ F (THURSDAY, AUG 13, RACE 9, 8:44 PM): The final tune-up for the Longacres Mile is headed by morning line favorite Barkley, whose six stakes wins and over $367,000 in earnings tower over this seven-horse field. The 7-year-old chestnut has something to prove, however, after missing the break and finishing a well-beaten second in his first start off a 14-month layoff. Papa’s Golden Boy and his blazing early speed throw a monkey wrench into this contest; trying to keep up with him early is not a wise strategy. Take Charge Deputy, Makah Lane and Elliott Bay will be waiting in the wings and ready to pounce. All three were razor sharp in their season debuts. Rally Cat, a stakes winner last year at age 3, and Catfish Hunter add fuel to the pace scenario.
Alittlelesstalk prevails in July 16 allowance race
$40,000 BOEING STAKES, 3&UP F&M, 6 ½ F (THURSDAY, AUG 13, RACE 7, 7:48 PM): Five of the seven horses exit the same July 16 allowance race in which Alittlelesstalk prevailed narrowly over Dontkissntell and Diamonds R. Those three along with the Frank Lucarelli duo of Killarney Lass and Paddy’s Secret have the proven ability to win this race, and Killarney Lass appears fastest early of the entire group. Alittlelesstalk is 5-3-0 in 11 starts at Emerald Downs and won the 2019 Kent Stakes at 6 ½ furlongs.
