Hit the Beach defends title in Muckleshoot Tribal Classic

XPRESSBET WASHINGTON CUP WRAPS UP SUNDAY

Sunday’s final installment of the 2019 Washington Cup features the $50,000 Mucklehsoot Tribal Classic for 3-year-olds and up, and $50,000 Washington Cup Filly & Mare presented by Xpressbet. Both are 1 1/16 miles and the final stakes of the meeting for older horses.

The Muckleshoot Tribal Classic drew a field of nine including defending champion Hit the Beach and 2014 winner Mike Man’s Gold, the latter recently scoring his record 22nd lifetime win at Emerald Downs. Makah Lane, winner of the WA Cup Sophomore Colt & Gelding two weeks ago, wheels back in two weeks.

Sippin Fire

Sippin Fire, unraced since a fourth in the Governor’s Stakes on June 2, returns to action in the Classic. The 2018 Washington Horse of the Year and Emerald Downs’ Horse of the Meeting bids to become the first horse to score Washington Cup victories at age 2, 3 and 4. The Steve Bullock trainee won the 2017 Washington Cup Juvenile Colt & Gelding and the 2018 Washington Cup Sophomore Colt & Gelding.

No Talking Back

In the Washington Cup Filly & Mare, No Talking Back carries high weight of 123 lbs against a strong field that includes 2018 Filly & Mare runner-up Dontkissntell and four-time Emerald Downs’ stakes winner Bella Mia. A 5-year-old Flatter mare trained by Chris Stenslie, No Talking Back aims for a stakes hat trick following victories in the Boeing Stakes and Emerald Distaff, and could also atone for a sixth as the favorite in last year’s Filly & Mare.

Under Par ships down from Canada and is 9 for 13 lifetime for trainer Mark Cloutier. A 4-year-old Stephanotis filly, she’s led at the stretch call in every career start, but has never raced farther than 6 1/2 furlongs.

The field for the $50,000 Washington Cup Filly & Mare Presented by Xpessbet (Race 5): 1-Dontkissntell, Ryan Barber, 119; 2-No Talking Back, Scott Stevens, 123; 3-Suddenly Awesome, Kevin Krigger, 119; 4-Under Par, Amadeo Perez, 119; 5-Magical Spell, Gary Wales, 118; 6-Fortune’s Freude, Eddie Martinez, 117; 7-Bella Mia, Kevin Orozco, 117.

The field for the $50,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic (Race 7): 1-Grinder Sparksaglo, Kevin Orozco, 120 lbs; 2-Sippin Fire, Kevin Krigger, 118; 3-Coulterberry, Amadeo Perez, 118; 4-The Press, Jennifer Whitaker, 120; 5-Trump Itz, Jose Zunino, 120; 6-Makah Lane, Juan Gutierrez, 120; 7-Elliott Bay, Javier Matias, 118; 8-Hit the Beach, Scott Stevens, 122; 9-Mike Man’s Gold, Gary Wales, 118.
