K D Thoroughbreds’ Slew’s Tiz Whiz prevails in the 2022 Longacres Mile
SLEW’S TIZ WHIZ JOINS EXCLUSIVE CLUB
With his victory in the 87th Longacres Mile, K D Thoroughbreds’ Slew’s Tiz Whiz became the 22nd Washington-bred and the first since Stryker Phd in 2015 to capture the Northwest’s most historic race. Twenty different Washington-breds have won the Mile; Trooper Seven won the race in 1980 and 1981, Stryker Phd in 2014 and 2015.
Slew’s Tiz Whiz earned a career-high 88 Beyer for his 1:34.46 clocking in the Mile, improving to 6-1-1 in 13 career starts with earnings of $170,707. Among Washington-breds, he ranks No. 2 in 2022 earnings with $127,462. Two-year-old The Big Wam is first with $161,160.
With Slew’s Tiz Whiz winning and Papa’s Golden Boy finishing second, it marks the first time Washington-breds finished one-two in the Mile at Emerald Downs. L.J. Express and Funboy last accomplished the feat in the 1995 Mile at Yakima Meadows.
And with Washington-breds finishing one-two in the Mile, a rematch is possible in the $50,000 Muckleshoot Tribal Classic on Sunday, September 18. At 1 1/16 miles, the Tribal Classic is part of a closing day stakes triple-header with the $70,000 Gottstein Futurity and $50,000 Washington Cup Filly & Mare Stakes.
