WEEK 7 FEATURE RACES
Wednesday, June 30, Race 7 ($20,900 ALW, 3&UP, 6F): An excellent Wednesday card is highlighted by the highly-anticipated return of 2020 Horse of the Meeting Dutton, who meets older horses in his 2021 debut. A gate scratch 10 days ago in the Auburn Stakes, Dutton is extremely fast early and too much for these–if he loads and exits the starting gate smoothly. However, even without Dutton this is a talented field. Windribbon has had his share of bad luck at the meet; paddock scratch after losing a shoe June 2 and gate scratch before the Budweiser Stakes on June 17. Windribbon has high early speed and his first start here last July was superior. Oh Marvelous Me rallied past Windribbon twice last fall and has finished first, second or third in 22 of 25 starts at Emerald Downs. Catfish Hunter finished second to Papa’s Golden Boy in his first start off the bench and fits at this level. Wheel Rally ran very well in his first start for Tim McCanna, but further improvement is needed to contend here. Take Charge Debuty finished a distant third in a race he probably needed and has a history of outrunning his odds. Collusionist wasn’t disgraced in his local bow and could make noise if things get crazy up front.
Thursday, July 1, Race 7 ($20,000 ALW, 3&UP F&M, 6F): Talented 3-year-old filly Blazingbellablu faces winners after a good maiden score at this distance two weeks ago. Her versatile style helps the cause and she also gets the meet’s leading rider. 4-year-old For You Only has lost 11 straight, but she is fast early and has five seconds in eight starts against top competition the last two seasons. You Go Girl is rounding into form but needs to work out a trip from the No. 1 post. Tothemoonandback and Zippin Sevenz figure to move forward after decent comeback races.
