Top Quality chased home by Blazinbeauty in the Irish Day Stakes
$75,000 WASHINGTON OAKS ON TAP SUNDAY
AUBURN, Wash. (July 17, 2017) – The $75,000 Washington Oaks—the meet’s biggest event for 3-year-old fillies—drew an even dozen nominations led by Ten Broeck Farm’s Top Quality and Darrin Paul’s Blazinbeauty.
To be run Sunday at 1 1/8 miles, the Oaks is likely to decide honors as Emerald Downs’ Top 3-Year-old Filly. The division already has produced three different winners: Alliford Bay in the Seattle Stakes, Risque’s Legacy in the Kent Stakes and Top Quality in the Irish Day Stakes. Of those, only Top Quality is nominated to the Oaks and the likely favorite Sunday.
A $280,000 daughter of Quality Road, Top Quality took an immediate liking to the Emerald Downs strip while scoring a 3 ¾-length blowout in the June 25 Irish Day. Trained by Blaine Wright, who already has five stakes wins at the meet, Top Quality ran one mile in 1:34.88 and earned a career best 80 Beyer.
Blazinbeauty has fired in all three outs this season, finishing second in the Irish Day and third in both the Kent and Seattle. A stretch-running daughter of Tale of Ekati, Blazinbeauty figures to appreciate an extra furlong in the Oaks. Her trainer and rider, Frank Lucarelli and Isaias Enriquez, combined with Mach One Rules to take down Sunday’s Mt. Rainier Stakes.
Daz Lin Dawn, already a quadruple stakes winner this year in Vancouver, is nominated to the Oaks but unlikely to run after winning last Saturday’s Supernaturel Handicap.
