$50,000 Washington Oaks-Nominations

$50,000 WASHINGTON OAKS COULD DECIDE TITLE

AUBURN, Wash. (July 15, 2018) – Bella Mia, Ima Happy Cat and Diamonds R—all stakes winners at the meeting—head nominations for the $50,000 Washington Oaks for 3-year-old fillies on Sunday, July 22.

To be run at 1 1/8 miles, the Washington Oaks is the final open stakes race this season for 3-year-old fillies, although Washington-breds also have the $50,000 Washington Cup Sophomore Filly on August 26. And the new $100,000 Getaway Stakes is open to all 3-year-olds on September 23.

The 3-year-old filly division has been a scramble this season, the three races producing three different winners. Ima Happy Cat (top left) captured the Seattle Stakes at six furlongs, Bella Mia (top right)  taking the Kent Stakes at 6 ½ furlongs, and Diamonds R (No. 6) rolling to a 13-1 upset in the Irish Day Stakes at 1 1/16 miles. A victory by any of those three would go a long way in season-ending voting for the meet’s Top 3-Year-Old Filly.

Bella Mia currently ranks the steadiest of the three. A Washington-bred by Harbor the Gold-Bella Campana, she has runner-up finishes in the Seattle and Irish Day to go with her 2 ½-length triumph in the Kent.
