TOP QUALITY TOPS EMERALD DISTAFF NOMS
AUBURN, Wash. (July 30, 2018) – Ten Broeck Farm’s triple stakes winner Top Quality heads a list of 13 older fillies and mares nominated to the $50,000 Emerald Distaff, to be run at 1 1/8 miles on Sunday, August 12.
The 23rd running of the Emerald Distaff is part or a stakes quadruple-header featuring the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3) for older horses, $50,000 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes for 2-year-old fillies, and $50,000 WTBOA Lads Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings.
Top Quality enters the Distaff on a roll for trainer Blaine Wright. A 4-year-old Quality Road filly, she has won two straight 1 1/16-mile stakes—the Strawberry Morn Handicap at Hastings Racecourse and Boeing Stakes at Emerald Downs. In the Boeing, she rallied from seven lengths back for a 3 ¾-length victory in 1:41.39, earning a career-high 84 Beyer.
Wright, who also nominated Daz Lin Dawn and Reginella, has won the first three races of the older filly and mare series with three different horses: Invested Prospect (Hastings Stakes), Alliford Bay (Washington State Legislators Stakes), Top Quality (Boeing Stakes).
Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, a three-time Distaff winner, nominated Eccentric Spinster and Turkish Tabby to the Distaff. Eccentric Spinster most recently finished runner-up to Alliford Bay in the California Governor’s Cup Handicap at Sacramento, and stakes-placed Turkish Tabby was scratched from Sunday’s Clement L. Hirsch (G1) won by stable mate Unique Bella at Del Mar.
Washington Oaks winner Princessof the Nyl is the lone 3-year-old nominated to the Distaff. Last year, 3-year-old Little Dancer finished second to Citizen Kitty in the Distaff.
Entries for the Emerald Distaff will be drawn Wednesday, August 8, along with entries for the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3), $50,000 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes and $50,000 WTBOA Lads Stakes. Weights will be released Saturday, August 4.
