Anyportinastorm sets a stakes record 1:07.54 in the $50,000 Governors
ANYPORTINASTORM HEADS $50,000 BUDWEISER STAKES
AUBURN, Wash. (June 23, 2019) – Peter Redekop’s brilliantly fast Anyportinastorm tops a list of 11 older horses nominated to the $50,000 Budweiser Stakes on Sunday, June 30.
At 6 ½ furlongs, the Budweiser is the second of four stakes for older handicap horses and final sprint on the road to the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3) on August 11.
Anyportinastorm delivered a dazzling local debut in the Governor’s Stakes three weeks ago. With Juan Hernandez aboard for trainer Blaine Wright, the 5-year-old City Zip horse ran six furlongs in a stakes record 1:07.54 while defeating stable mate Oh Marvelous Me by 3 ½ widening lengths. Anyportinastorm is 6-1-4 in 12 career starts with earnings of $214,625, including stakes wins at Golden Gate, Zia Park and Emerald Downs.
Oh Marvelous Me and Grinder Sparksaglo, second and third place finishers in the Governor’s, return for another crack at Anyportinastorm, while 2018 Horse of the Meeting Sippin Fire looks to rebound from a fourth in the Governor’s.
In addition to Anyportinastorm, trainer Blaine Wright and owner Peter Redekop nominated Awhitesportscoat, a 5-year-old Hansen gelding coming off a victory in the $50,000 George Royal at Hastings Racecourse.
El Huerfano, claimed for $62,500 at Santa Anita last month, has fired Beyers of 95, 96 and 93 in his last three starts in Southern California.
Elliott Bay, claimed for a record-tying $50,000 at Emerald Downs last month, was a double stakes winner ate age 2; Hit the Beach won two stakes late last season but is yet to fire in three starts in 2019; Many Roses has enjoyed success as a front-running router on turf and synthetic, but has never raced on dirt; Portland Meadows Mile winner Take Charge Deputy has finished fourth in a pair of starts this meet vs. $25,000 claimers.
