    SONGANDABULLET CONTINUES BIG SEASON
WITH FEATURE RACE VICTORY AT EMERALD DOWNS

AUBURN, Wash. (June 27) – Songandabullet took command into the stretch and drew clear for a three-length victory Friday in the $12,700 Coca-Cola Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by David G. Lopez, Songandabullet ran one mile in 1:35.70 on a fast track and paid $12.20, $5.20 and $3.80. Frank Lucarelli is the trainer for owners Ron and Nina Hagen of Enumclaw.

For Lucarelli, it was the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat all wrapped into one race. He also saddled Posse Power, the 4-to-5 betting favorite, but the 7-year-old gelding was out of the race almost before it began, stumbling badly at the break to unseat jockey Isaias Enriquez.

Neither Posse Power nor Enriquez were injured in the mishap—in fact, Posse Power continued running and crossed the wire first, but horses are disqualified automatically if racing without a rider.

“It’s too bad because I really thought we had a chance to finish first and second,” Lucarelli said. “But that’s the way it goes.”

Everything is going right for Songandabullet. The 4-year-old gelding became the seventh horse with three wins at the meet, and has compiled a 3-1-0 record in four starts overall. A Kentucky-bred by Songandaprayer, Songandabullet is 4-3-0 in 16 lifetime starts with earnings of $35,646.

Ugottabcatty, ridden by Leslie Mawing, edged Uzziah for the place and paid $4.60 and $3.60. Uzziah, ridden by Eliska Kubinova, finished third and paid $3.40.

Secret Harbor, the early leader, finished fourth, followed by Southern Solution.

NOTES: Lopez was the only jockey with two wins on the seven-race card. . . Friday’s $0.50 Pick 5 paid $5,303, second highest of the meet and a healthy return considering $14.80 was the largest payoff in the sequence. . .Dori Monson, longtime host on Kiro FM 97.3 and renowned horseracing aficionado, turned in a flawless call while substituting for regular announcer Robert Geller in Friday’s fourth race. . . Perusethenews ($14.80) prevailed in the fourth, denying 7-year-old Buddy Dave his 14th Emerald Downs victory by a head. . .Seahawks offensive line coach and assistant head coach Tom Cable was a guest at Emerald Downs, and was interviewed by Joe Withee in the paddock before Friday’s feature race. . .Lady Aragorn ($6.80) pulled off her second last-to-first rally of the meet to nail Poly Squat in the Friday opener. A 5-year-old Aragorn mare trained by Sam Dronen, Lady Aragorn paid a meet-high $73.20 in her previous victory May 26. . .Another veteran, 8-year-old He’s All Heart ($9.20) made it two straight and nine wins overall with a gusty triumph in race five, holding off a wall of closers for the victory under Gallyn Mitchell. . .Jockey Joe Steiner upped his career total to 995 wins with a front-running score aboard Peradventure ($11.60) in a $56,000 maiden special weight for 2-year-olds Friday at Santa Anita. . .Live racing continues Saturday with first post 2:15 p.m.
