STEPHANIE PLUM REELS IN JUST HAVE’N FUN,
PREVAILS IN ASHBAUGH BEAL PURSE
AUBURN, Wash. (August 2, 2013) – The consistent 5-year-old mare Stephanie Plum fired another bullet Friday night at Emerald Downs.
With regular rider Leonel Camacho-Flores aboard, Stephanie Plum rallied past Just Have’n Fun into the stretch and pulled away for a convincing 3 ¼-length victory in the $13,750 Ashbaugh Beal Purse for Washington-bred fillies and mares. Stephanie Plum ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.95 and paid $5, $3 and $2.10.
Trained by H.R. Pat Mullens, and co-owned by Mullens, Swede Larson and Ed Zenker, Stephanie Plum has a 3-2-1 mark in seven starts this season with earnings of $29,574. Her consistency and versatility—Stephanie Plum has victories this season at 5 ½ furlongs, six furlongs and 1 1/16 miles—could make her a candidate for the meet’s Top Claimer award later in the meet.
A Washington-bred by Memo-Almost Skint, Stephanie Plum is 4-3-2 in 12 starts overall with earnings of $37,004.
Just Have’n Fun, ridden by Jennifer Whitaker, held second place and paid $4 and $2.40. A steady 4-year-old Washington-bred, Just Have’n Fun has finished first, second or third in 12 of 19 career starts, but is winless in seven starts since a gate-to-wire victory last September.
Whiskey Miner, the 5-to-2 second choice ridden by David G. Lopez, rallied from last to finish third and paid $2.20 for show. Private Fortune and Clemens Brook completed the order of finish.
