    KENT HANDICAP

    3-YEAR-OLD FILLIES

    18th RUNNING, JULY 19, 2014

    1-1/16 MILES IN 1:41.46

JOCKEY LESLIE MAWING, OLE’S MISS, WINNER: “Chris (Loseth) and Tracy (McCarthy) told me not to panic because this horse makes a big giant move at the end. I just let her break and she got into position. Once we got to the backside, she was actually dragging on me. I didn’t want to move too early, so I held her back. Coming to the three-eighths pole, the pace was crawling, so I let out a little bit more and she just grabbed a hold of the bit. Down the stretch, I let her extend her stride and she did that well. (Mylast Sweet Pea) ran a big race. It wasn’t like we were stopping, that horse just kicked it in. I had to keep an eye on that horse all the way to the wire. I just want to put it on record, it’s my wife’s birthday today, and she says I never win a race on her birthday.”

JOCKEY GALLYN MITCHELL, MYLAST SWEET PEA, SECOND: “She ran a big race. Last time I fought a little run out of her. This time I wanted to let her run into the turn. My filly just kept going. She ran a bang-up race. I think she saw the other horse go by her in the stretch, and she just kept digging in. She dug in twice, really. She dug in once at the eighth-pole, and then again inside the sixteenths-pole. I’m not sure we were ever going to get the winner, but it was close.”

NOTES: Ole’s Miss (7-4-1-2-$129,113). . .This is the first Emerald Downs win for trainer L. Tracy McCarthy. . .Owner Ole Nielsen (Canmor Farms) resides in Richmond, BC. . .Leslie Mawing is No. 1 with four stakes wins this meet and tied with Kevin Radke for No. 5 all-time with 25 stakes wins. . .Next for 3-year-old fillies: $65,000 Washington Oaks, Saturday, August 9.
